My area of research is the role of popular religion in Pentecostal-type and Charismatic churches in Mozambique. I am looking a the relationship between mainline mission churches, missionaries, newer Pentecostal churches and AIC's in Mozambique specifically with regard to the accommodation/eradication of African traditional religious concepts and rituals. I work alongside local Christians in Inhambane province. I will be focussing on the Zionist/Apostolic rural churches and as participant observer in their services/rituals I will be trying to ascertain the truth as to whether their expression of the Christian faith is at variance with (as many profess) Christianity or not.
